Greenville, South Carolina - Three member chapters (two Zeta Chapters and one Alpha Chapter) start their efforts to raise funds and awareness for the local March for Babies event in Greenville, SC. March for Babies (formerly known as WalkAmerica) is sponsored by March of Dimes (www.marchofdimes.com) and its goal is to decrease infant mortality across the world. The local March of Dimes Chapter uses the event in April to gather the community toward this goal by walking a 6.2 mile course.
Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. conducts its program Stork's Nest that encourages women to seek prenatal care within the first trimester of pregnancy, thereby increasing the prevention of birth defects and infant mortality. Nationwide, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. sponsors over 175 Stork's Nests. Last year, the Stork's Nest program served over 28,000 women.
Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. conducts its Project Alpha Program, one of the fraternity's oldest national programs. For over 20 years, Project Alpha has worked in collaboration with the March of Dimes to help young men make responsible decisions concerning HIV/AIDS, and sexually transmitted diseases. It also provides education on sexuality, fatherhood and the role of males in relationships.
This year's March will start at Clemson University's ICAR campus on April 24, 2010 at 9 AM. You can support all three of our member chapters by going to their Team Web pages and donating to their efforts:
